Grade I Listed Repair & Conversion Project | Somerset

SCOPE OF WORKS

We are proud to be the Main Contractors appointed to convert the Historical Castle House, Taunton. Working with the Somerset Building Preservation Trust and the Architect (Architecton) this historical building that lay untouched for over 300 years was transformed.The conversion of Castle House, Taunton, for the Somerset Building Preservation Trust, which forms part of Taunton Castle. 
Castle House was a hidden building, that boasts a medieval wall, Tudor wings on the South and East wings – and prior to the project remained untouched for over 300 years. It was on the English Heritage at Risk register until a fund was realised, along with Heritage Lottery Funding and English Heritage support.

The project was to repair and conversion of Castle House, which forms part of Taunton Castle. The scope of the project was the ground floor conversion into an interpretation center (for people of all ages to learn about history of the house and associated area), and the upper floors into a holiday let house. This project required a co-operative approach with the architect and client, and experience working on sensitive old buildings.

The Project was opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO on the 22nd of April, 2014.
