NAILSEA TITHE BARN, NAILSEA

Conservation & Restoration Project | North Somerset

The Tithe Barn dates back to around 1480, therefore a sensitive approach was required when approaching and carrying out this project. The Nailsea Tithe Barn Trust was formed in 2006. Its aim was to: 'save, repair, refurbish the Tithe Barn and to make it available for use by groups within the local community”. We are proud to be the Main Contractors appointed to restore, repair and conserve the Nailsea Tithe Barn, in Northern Somerset.

The scope of the project was the removal of all modern finishes and internal structures, existing roof coverings and internal floor structures. The focus then was the installation of new insulated roof structure and covering, sympathetic repair restoration of historic internal oak roof structure and stonework to Tithe Barn, and the installation of insulated, heated concrete floors. New glazed atrium link from Tithe Barn to adjacent building was created. Alteration and extension of adjacent building to form offices, a commercial kitchen and toilets including all associated mechanical and electrical services. New parking area and associated external works were also carried out.

The Nailsea Tithe Barn is a unique historical building, fully refurbished and developed as a community facility.
